Acianthera luteola (Lindl.) Pridgeon & M.W.Chase (Ex-Pleurothallis luteola)


Epífita de tamaño mediano a pequeño, que suele formar densas matas sobre ramas y troncos de vegetación higrófila, encontrándosela generalmente creciendo en los bordes de arroyos o en zonas de alta humedad, en condiciones de sombreamiento. No posee pseudobulbos y sus tallos son largos y delgados, con una única hoja ovolanceolada, de color verde oscuro a claro y de consistencia coriácea. Presenta un rizoma con largas raíces que se adhieren fuertemente al soporte vegetal.
Generalmente presenta una o dos flores de color amarillo fuerte en la unión del tallo con la hoja. En algunos ejemplares puede observarse un punteado púrpura en el labelo.
El género Acianthera, al cual pertenece ésta especie fué recientemente separado de Pleurothallis.
Para Argentina están citadas aproximadamente 7 especies de Acianthera y unas 23 de Pleurothallis.

Epiphyte medium to small, often forming dense mats on tree branches and trunks of vegetation hygrophilous, generally found growing on the edge of streams or in areas of high humidity, shading conditions. It has no pseudobulbs and its stems are long and thin, with a single sheet ovolanceolada from dark to light green color and leathery texture. It has a rhizome with long roots that adhere strongly to the support plant.
Usually has one or two bright yellow flowers at the junction of the leaf stalk. In some specimens can be seen in a purple dotted lip.
Acianthera The genus to which belongs this species was recently separated from Pleurothallis.
For Argentina are cited Acianthera about 7 species and about 23 of Pleurothallis.
It blooms between July and September.
It is a very rare species to find, but its cultivation is relatively easy if given the right conditions.
